Beautifully filmed and put together, easily one of my favourites this year. The video features Chris running about in some fantasy land in homage to some video games (I don’t know enough video games to know what ones). It’s pretty cool.
Every time I go past the steel drum guy on the bridge by the Southbank Centre I always think of Wildbirds & Peacedrums. My friend Bobbles took that video, the best part is the pause at 2.18, in so don’t (EPIC PAUSE) ruuuuuuun. Then Mariam has a giant grin on her face. I had a giant grin on my face. Best use of a pause in live music that I’ve ever seen. Astounding.
Some of the summer busks, including: Lulu and the Lampshades, First Aid Kit and Fanfarlo are up on the site now.
My favourite is Feet To The Sky by Lulu and the Lampshades. Watch watch watch! Lulu and the Lampshades are, without any question, one of my most favourite local bands that I’ve come across, who I’ll happily see live and eagerly await recorded material.
The next busk is on November 1st. Keep an ear out!
Hahaha. I’m not sure why I’m only just seeing this now. Watch Music Go Music do Light Of Love on Face Time. It’s such a beautifully shot video, and so much fun! Just look at Meredith go! What a front-woman. The woah-woah-woah-woah part is so fun.
The perfect cure for any heavy heart! How can you watch Music Go Music and not feel jolly!? They all look like they’re having so much fun. Their wonderful outfits are a sight to behold, also. And kudos to the lighting person, the light is very beautiful. Go see them live if you get the chance.
I was just going over my ‘favourite gig moments of the year’ list and thinking about Ribbon. How lucky I am to have heard the wonderful She Keeps Bees perform it so many times.
Here is a video from the Windmill earlier this year:
I really miss them. They are great. Jess is one of those people that you like instantly, as soon as you meet them. Both she and Andy are a joy to be around and I’m so excited for them to be back here…!
Oh! Remember that show?! That was nice. Amidst all the wonderful bands I see I sometimes forget the ones that are most blindingly obviously brilliant. Wildbirds & Peacedrums. What a special, amazing band… unlike any other.
Back in June they played with a drum circle at the Coronet. It was filmed and you can watch the thirty minute video here. What an incredible band. I’m so eager to hear whatever they do next…
On September 14th I came back from End of the Road festival. Exhausted and with achey muscles, I opted out of the trip to Rough Trade to see Laura Gibson, having seen her just a couple of days ago, and knowing I would see her in a couple of days time anyway. Here is a video of her playing the old traditional All The Pretty Little Horses:
She’s right. It’s lullaby-esque, but with a creepy, sinister feeling (birds and flies were pecking his eyes, poor little thing cried mammy). The origin of the song is that it was supposedly sung by black slaves in the 19th century.
