escapades of a musical variety

Review: Nate Campany at Pure Groove

Posted by anikainlondon on May 11, 2009

The moral of the story, is always go to gigs. Especially if they’re free. Beforehand, I wasn’t sure if I could be bothered to go to this, but I’m glad I did. I really need to get revising, but I figured Pure Groove is on the way to Tesco (although there are 2 stores that are closer) so I might as well pop down this lunchtime to catch Brooklyn based singer Nate Campany.

I didn’t know any of his material, but I love instores because they give you a taster of something. If you like it, great, and if you don’t… well, you only have to sit through it for 20 minutes, and it’s free.

I took my seat at the front. I was too lazy to move or do anything, so I only took a few photos, all from my seated position. So please, excuse that poor photo. I loved Nate’s mellow, laid back folky style music. He was very chatty and his stage banter was endearing. He’s originally from Ohio but now lives in New York. He noted how different the audiences are here to over there. I would love to go to a few (well, more than a few) shows in New York just to see how different it is. It’s intriguing going to shows in different cities besides your own. Nate had a beautifully soothing voice, and it was sweet sitting there listening to his lovely lyrics and delicate fingerpicking. My favourite song he did was actually his newest, which he wrote yesterday. It was about London. There was also a part about Brighton. I love London and I like Brighton too. I thought the song was wonderful and I hope he ends up recording it. He was over here to promote his new album, it’s not out yet but he had a few copies, but I had no spare monies. Here is his Myspace, go see him.
